During his two years at SCORE Lee Simonson has brought a wealth of expertise and wisdom to the current and aspiring business owners he has assisted in achieving success. His career, spanning forty-five years as a media manager and entrepreneur, began with a job as the “Voice of the University of Maryland”. After graduation, he worked as a disc jockey and later joined RKO General where over eighteen years he moved from sales management to founding General Manager of KISS-FM in New York and WOR-AM.
In 1988 Lee started Broadcasting Partners, Inc. and led an Initial Public Offering (IPO) of the company which, through a series of mergers, became one of the largest radio groups in the country. He then started a second radio group, successfully sold it and started Simonson Associates in 2000, consulting broadcast companies and financial institutions.
Winding things down, he joined the Central Park Conservancy in 2014 as a Greensward Guide; Big Apple Greeter and New York City SCORE. In guiding his clients he stresses the importance of focus and prioritization. “Leaving the rest for later is crucial in creating a strategic business plan.” In making the sale, his philosophy is simple, “Ask questions about the customer’s challenges, listen deeply to the answers, and provide a solution.”
Lee and his wife, Nancy, have been married for 43 years and have two grown children, Laura and Michael.
